Keeping Residents Safe in their Naples Homes When the Next Storm Hits
In response to the devastation left by Katrina and the storms that have followed, DuPont has manufactured 200 shelters called StormRooms. With the positive response that the product has received throughout Florida, it is quite possible that a few shelters will be installed in Naples homes.
The shelters are "made with a thin layer of Kevlar, the same material used in tank armor and bulletproof vests, and can withstand winds of up to 250 mph and more than 80,000 pounds of weight." They can fit up to ten people and are equipped with a battery-powered radio and emergency light. During installation in Naples homes, the shelters are bolted to a 4 inch concrete slab to make sure it stays upright when the storm blows through.
For those who plan on leaving their Naples homes long before the next storm hits, DuPont suggests using the shelter to safeguard all the precious belongings a homeowner can´t fit into his or her car.
