Are Synthetic Shingles the Right Choice for Naples Homes?

Now that Florida has seen the wrath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, many homeowners, particularly those in coastal cities, are being forced to reconsider the kinds of materials they use when repairing their homes.

Naples homes generally have roofs made of standard materials, such as wood and slate, but their yearly exposure to hurricane strength winds and pounding tropical storms may mean that Naples homes need roofs made of more durable materials.

Synthetic roofing material manufacturers are currently working overtime to fill the demand for synthetic shingles produced by the large number of storm damaged roofs throughout the Southeast. These shingles are popular because they are thick, yet light weight, easy to install and fire, impact and high wind resistant.

Manufacturers claim that their synthetic shingles are so durable that "insurance industry regulators find them key to reducing claims and holding down insurance rates."
